1. Mehrangarh Fort
Mehrangarh otherwise known as Mehran Fort was built by Rao Jodha in 1459 in Jodhpur and is situated on 410 feet elevated hill that is also guarded by massive walls. This fort has been used in many Bollywood and Hollywood movies like The Lion King, The Dark Knight Rises, and in the recent Bollywood movie –Thugs of Hindusthan. The fort has seven gates and these are called victory gates and each gate comes with a special name for it. The fort also has two palaces i.e. Sheesh Mahal and Phool Mahal. On the wall of the fort, there are intricate carvings, sprawling courtyards, its impressive history, striking palaces, museums, and galleries allure tourists from all over the world. The fort also has a well-stocked museum that has six galleries. All this makes this place a must-visit.
2. Jaswant Thada
This was built in the year 1899 by Maharaja Sardar Singh in memory of his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. This is a splendid cenotaph which also serves as the mausoleum for the kings of Marwar. Jaswant Thada should be visited for its architectural excellence and when you visit there you will be entertained by the local musicians and folk dancers. Jaswant Thada also houses the exquisite garden. This place also houses intricately carved marbles. Hence, there is nothing wrong in saying this Taj Mahal of Marwar as it attracts tourists from all over the world.
3. Umaid Bhawan
The Bhawan consists of 347 rooms and divided into three parts. One part is the residence of the royal family and visitors are not allowed inside it. The second house is the museum which displays a rich collection of the museum where photographs, arms, clocks, stuffed animals and other possessions of the royal family are located. The third part is the five-star hotel and provides excellent services to its clients from India and abroad. The Bhawan is perched on top of the Chittar Hill, hence it is also called as Chittar Palace. The garden is lush green and has different varieties of flowers which add to the beauty of the palace.
4. Mandore Garden
This garden is part of Mehrangarh Fort and it also houses a famous hall of heroes and the temple of 300 million Gods. This is just 9 kilometres away from Jodhpur. It also contains wide green expanses, exquisite architecture, and royal cenotaphs; it is no wonder to say that this garden is a feast to your eyes. The garden also houses a Government museum which is full of artefacts, as well as, old relics. The garden also contains cenotaphs that are found across the garden. However, the structures inside the garden are quite striking. The hall of heroes has the figure of 16 warriors carved out of a single rock. This garden becomes a must-visit place in your Jodhpur tourism list.
