Udaipur was established as the new capital of Mewar Kingdom in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh II. It is located southwest of Nagda, the first capital of Mewar, in the lush, circular Girwa Valley.
1. City Palace
This palace is situated on the banks of Lake Pichola. It is the largest royal complex found in Rajasthan. The magnificent palace was built in the year 1559 by Maharana Uday Singh and was the epitome of power. This is because the Maharanas lived and ruled from this palace. The Maharanas kept on increasing the structure to the palace that it contains mahals, courtyards, pavilions, corridors, terraces, rooms, and hanging gardens. There is also a museum that showcases the finest Rajput arts and culture. It is the amalgam of architecture and rich heritage which makes visiting this palace - a wonderful trip.
2. Lake Pichola
The artificial lake is located at the heart of the Udaipur city. This is not only the oldest lake but also the largest lakes in the city. Flanked by its tranquility and beauty, lakhs of people across the world visit this lake every year. 3. Sahelion Ki Bari
Sahelion Ki Bari otherwise known as the “Courtyard of Maidens” is a majestic garden situated in the city of Udaipur. It is meant for the maidens who accompany the princess after her marriage to the Maharana Sangram Singh. This mesmerizing garden is located on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake in Udaipur. It comes with exquisite lush green lawns, canopied walking lanes, and magnificent fountains. If you are looking for complete relaxation and rejuvenation then it is the ideal place. 4. Jag Mandir
Jag Mandir Palace is otherwise known as ‘The Lake Garden Palace’ is a popular palace that is located on the southern island of Lake Pichola in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This is a three-storied palace made out of marble and yellow sandstone. There are eight huge elephants that are carved out of pure marble which seems to guard the palace. Some of the most famous places to visit are Gul Mahal where Shah Jahan lived with his family so it was made in the style of Islamic architecture. A mosque is also found in the vicinity of this palace. Post his death, this palace was completed during the 17th century by Maharana Jagat Singh. Some of the must-visit places are Bara Patharon ka Mahal, Kunwar Pada ka Mahal, and Zenana Mahal Palace. The Palace has exotic gardens that are embellished with roses, jasmine, palm trees, frangipani trees, and bougainvillea. The palace also has a museum and now it has a restaurant called ‘Darikhana’ which serves delectable Rajasthani foods and it is a must-visit.
