This famous Rock Garden developed from a mere hobby of Nek Chand (who was a former Inspector in Chandigarh) which now stands tall in the list of one of most famous places to visit in Chandigarh.
The entire place is wholly constructed from urban and industrial wastes that have been designed into sculptures and displayed in a massive open-air exhibition hall.

History
This place was secretly being built by Nek Chand in the year 1957 near Sukhna Lake on the path of the vision of the kingdom of Sukarni.
Nek Chand would collect all the urban and industrial wastes in his spare time and would collect them on the infertile land.
Nek Chand continued this work secretly until 18 years hiding it from the eyes of the Authorities making the said work illegal yet bountiful.
The Authorities then noticed the same and also took a decision to demolish the same but then due to the public popularity that it gained the same has stayed.
Nek Chand was given the Authority to carry out the further developments in the said Garden and was also provided with laborers.
This garden now stands tall with daily 6000 plus visitors being not only from India but also from foreign countries.
Phases in the Rock Garden
Phase 1
This phase has entanglement of terracotta pots, niches, and chambers decorated with colorful broken bangles, tiles, mirrors, tube light pieces, and some toilet fixtures.
Various statues and figures of animals, humans, and birds are made out of waste materials and are placed in phase 1.
Phase 2
Phase 2 has a major crowd attraction due to a massive waterfall here.
A miniature village has been constructed here along with Amphitheatres, courtyards and intricate pathways.
