Be it any season, adrenaline junkies will always look for reasons to pack their bags and break the monotony of regular life. This is the age of the millennials and has seen some of the rarest places being developed as an adventure tourism destination. India has a whole big bunch of young tourists and we bring to you the four most popular places where you can dare yourself for the most thrilling adventure holiday of life!

Leh and Ladakh

The most common entry point to India’s far northern region of Ladakh is Leh. This remote region is also developed by the tourism authority of India to be one of the finest places to enjoy adventure tourism. It became a popular tourist destination since Ladakh was opened to foreigners in 1974.

The eclectic mix of nature and adventure is what makes this extreme destination a loved choice for all adventure junkies. From trekking trails to water rafting, you ask for it and will get it. In fact, travel on Khardung La, the world’s highest motorable road is no less adventurous. This makes Leh and Ladakh one of the best adventure tourism destinations of India

Best time to visit: Travel from April to June, the summer season is the right choice.

How to reach?

To reach Ladakh, you have two options: Firstly, you can fly in an airplane, or secondly, you can travel on the road. If you choose to fly, there are daily flights from big cities like Delhi or Mumbai to Leh. When you land in Leh, it’s super cool because you get to fly over the tall Himalayan mountains, and then you come down through the beautiful Indo Valley.

On the other hand, if you want to go by road, you can only do it from June to October. Do you know why? Because, the roads are closed the rest of the months. Now, there are two main roads you can take:

• Srinagar: This road takes you on an exciting journey of 450 km to Leh. Along the way, you’ll pass high mountains. We assure you that this trip is unforgettable because you get to see amazing views. However, it might take a long time, up to 24 hours, and you’ll have a stop in the middle to rest for the night.
• Manali: On the other hand, the second road comes from the south, and it’s about 480 km to Leh. On this road, you’ll go through the Tang La Pass, which is over 5300 meters!

Spiti

Spiti Valley is placed in one of the most remote regions of Himachal Pradesh. It seems like a different world altogether. With an average height of around 12,500 feet above sea level, you can expect the best panoramic view of the alpine land. Scattered with small villages and monasteries, it is also a place for trekkers. The adventure activities also include yak safaris from village to village, tracking wildlife, mountain biking, and white-water rafting.

Best time to visit: Explore from March to June for an adventurous trip.

How to reach?

• Firstly, if you want to reach Spiti Valley quickly, you can go by air. The nearest airport is in Kullu. Once you land there, you can conveniently take a taxi to reach Spiti Valley.

• On the other hand, if you prefer a scenic journey, you can choose to travel by train. The closest train station is in Shimla. Once you arrive in Shimla, you have the option to hire a cab or jeep to go to Spiti Valley. Alternatively, you can take a bus from the station to reach your destination.

• However, keep in mind that Spiti Valley doesn’t have its own airport or train station. So, the only option you have is to reach there by road. The roads in Spiti Valley are usually open throughout the year. It’s essential to check the itinerary beforehand as some roads may be closed for about six months.

Meghalaya

It might seem like a maverick choice at the first go but caving is definitely one of the most exotic adventure tourism activities for the young generation. Meghalaya, with its captivating caves, is the go-to spot. The state has too much of waterfalls and greenery to offer but it has some of the finest caves which are well maintained and worth a visit. Don’t forget to pack some safety gear.
Best time to visit: Discover the beauty from October to June.

How to reach?

• Firstly, if you want to explore Meghalaya and see all the beautiful places, a road trip is a great option. There is a special highway called NH-40 that you can travel on. You can drive your own car, or alternatively, take a comfortable bus from Guwahati to Shillong, the main city of Meghalaya. Additionally, you can also hire a cab or taxi from cities like Guwahati, Silchar, Imphal, and Aizawl to reach Meghalaya easily.

• On the other hand, if you prefer a train journey, Meghalaya doesn’t have its own train stations. However, you can go to the Guwahati train station, which is not too far from Shillong. From there, you can take a taxi or cab to reach Shillong. It takes about three hours by cab and a little longer by bus. Despite the lack of trains in Meghalaya, the NH-40 road connects it to Guwahati.

• Finally, flying to Meghalaya is another cool option. It has flights from cities like Kolkata, Imphal, and Bagdogra. However, if you are coming from far away, there is a bigger airport called Lokpriya Gopinath Bordolai Airport in Guwahati. After arriving there, you have the option to take a taxi or a bus to reach Shillong. It’s about a three-hour ride by cab.

Manali

The soothing backdrop of the Himalayas offers a blend of tranquillity and adventure which makes it one of the best tourist destinations for Indian as well as foreign tourists. Anyone looking for thrilling adventure sports will love Manali. White water rafting, skiing, mountaineering, and hiking are all very popular among millennials.

Even fishing is one of the popular choices which you might wish to give a try during the tour. Manali is definitely one of the best adventure tourism destinations of India. And guess what? It is our top favourite too

Biking manali

Best time to visit: Travel from September to June for a super cool adventure and lots of fun.

How to reach?

• Manali is a beautiful place, far away from Delhi, nestled by a river and surrounded by mountains. However, there are no airports or train stations in Manali. But don’t worry, you can still get there!

• To reach Manali, you have a couple of options. Firstly, you can take a long bus ride from Delhi. It might be bumpy and winding, but don’t fret, because you’ll see amazing mountain views along the way. Moreover, if you’re coming from Dharamsala, there’s a special bus for you too!

• On the other hand, another way to reach Manali is by flying to a nearby airport called Bhuntar. However, there’s a catch – sometimes, flights are not available due to bad weather. Nevertheless, don’t lose hope, because there are buses and taxis waiting to take you from Bhuntar to Manali.

• If you like trains, you can take one to Kullu, which is close to Manali. From Kullu, a taxi can bring you right to the beautiful town of Manali! So, no matter which way you choose, reaching Manali will be an exciting adventure!

Conclusion:

First of all, the beauty of these places and the fun activities you can do there are like nothing else!
When people visit these places, they can’t wait to try out all the fun stuff. Additionally, you know what? Lots of them end up loving every single activity! It’s like going on an amazing adventure, and everyone who goes there has a really great time! So, which are your best adventure tourism destinations of India?
