Choose the best time to visit India

You should do some research as to what is the best season to travel in India. If you are planning to visit North India, then winter is always a good time. You can also choose the monsoon season and this is the best time if you want to see greenery and jungles. You can select a particular festival and visit India at that time of the year. You can avoid the summer months if you are planning to tour Rajasthan or Gujarat. The period between October to March is the ideal time to visit India.

Choose the best tour itinerary

There are so many tours that you can plan in India. The most famous tour itinerary is that of the Golden Triangle Tour where you visit Delhi Agra and Jaipur. This tour is like the gateway to Indian culture and heritage. You will visit some of the most iconic Indian monuments like the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Qutub Minar, Hawa Mahal, etc. You can plan a tiger safari in Ranthambore National Park on this same tour. You can plan a tour of Haridwar, Rishikesh at the time of the Kumbh Mela. Uttarakhand is full of Himalayan Mountains and Auli is also in Uttarakhand.

Packing for your India tour

If you are going to visit the hill stations in North India you should pack woolen clothes. Always carry comfortable walking shoes and light slippers. Pack shawls, and scarves as they can come in handy on chilly winter mornings. You can even use them to cover your head if you are visiting gurudwaras or temples. Always keep hand sanitizers and paper soaps with you. If you are planning to go trekking in the Himalayas or the Western Ghats, then carry only the essential things in your backpack. Keep the heavy luggage in your hotel room.

The things that you should eat

Being fit in mind and body is important if you want to take care of yourself while India tour. Indian food is more delicious than you could imagine. But it is more on the spicier side. If you do not have eaten spicy food, then you should only have small portions, so that your stomach can digest it easily. Avoid eating heavy food especially when sightseeing or trekking. However, you should eat the local street food from popular restaurants only. Ask your tour guide and he can guide you to the best street food that is enjoyed by locals. Delhi has the most delicious chaats and North Indian food. Rajasthan also has some very delicious food dishes like Mawa Kachori, Ghevar, Mirchi Bada, etc.

Learn a few Hindi words

You should learn a few local Hindi words that are very easy to learn. Learning these can be very useful when greeting somebody or bargaining at a bazaar. You can learn a few simple words like Namaste or Achha. You will also find them useful while commuting in a cab or traveling by a local rickshaw. ‘Kitna’ means how much in Hindi. ‘Garam’ means hot. ‘Achha’ means OK, and ‘acha nahi’ means not OK. Carry motion sickness medicines if you have that problem. Carry a medical kit and keep it handy so that you can easily reach out for your medicines when you need them. Travel can come with unexpected events and you should have a first aid kit also ready.

Don’t travel in haste

Traveling in India can be tiring and take your energy. It does not mean that you will not enjoy traveling. It just means that you should plan your itinerary in such a way that you do not get tired. For example, plan to visit a few monuments in a city and reserve some time for rest. Avoid traveling in the hot sun and instead choose evenings for sightseeing. Also, note that distances are great between cities. If you are alighting from a flight or train, go to your hotel room first and get some breakfast, before you go for sightseeing tours. Avoid over-traveling as much as possible.

Always carry cash

You should have cash with you always, and it is most important if you want to take care while India tour. It however does not mean that you should not carry credit cards with you. It is simply a safe thing to carry cash. You may need it when paying for the rickshaw fare, or your medicines. You will not have a problem using credit cards in big cities. But in remote places and hilly regions, you should have sufficient cash with you. Some places do not have ATMs or bank branches. Some shops also do not accept credit cards.

Beware of touts and scams

If you are a foreign tourist who has come to India for the first time, then you are a target for touts or scams. In places like Delhi or Agra, such touts are waiting for some unsuspecting tourists so that they can cheat you into paying a higher price. Beware of them if you want to take care of yourself while India tour. Make yourself familiar with the help of a tour guide. Consult him as to what would be the safest shopping places or places for sightseeing. Avoid dark places at night, and stay put at your hotel.

Travel with an ID
