Mariam Tomb is a majestic building situated at Sikandar region (named after Sikandar Lodi) in the locality of Christian Missionary Society, 13km far from Agra. Mariam was the wife of King Akbar. Mariam was a Christian from Goa. Mariam, renowned as 'Mariam Zamani', was the mother of Prince Jahangir, who constructed the tomb after Mariam’s demise, in 1611 AD. The monument has an elegance and beauty in its carvings on walls and red sandstone structure. A prominent and interesting characteristic of the monument is its same look on the front and back sides.Mariam Zamani was the daughter of Raja Bharmal Kachhwaha of Amer and then she was the wife of great Mughal Emperor Akbar and the mother of his much-awaited successor Salim. This Rajpur queen was renowned as 'Mariam Zamani' in Mughal History meaning 'Compassionate to the World'. She was so named by Akbar on the celebration of the birth of his son and descendant Salim in 1569 at Fatehpur Sikri.
