Akal Takht, also known as Akal Takhat, defines as the throne of the immortal. Akal is defined as the timeless one and Takht means throne. Earlier, Akal Takht was referred as the Akal Bunga. The holy Takht was established in the Golden Temple complex. It is the first and the most important Takhat out of five Takhts in Sikhism.

Guru Hargobind Singh built the Akal Takhat on June 15, 1606. It was founded as a place of justice and temporal issues of Sikhism. The holy place is considered the symbol of a barrier against the Mughals in the 17 and 18th centuries. In the 18th century, various attacks were made by Massa Rangar & Ahmed Shah Abdali on the holy place.
On June 4, 1984, the Indian Army attacked and destroyed the throne of the timeless one to take out Sikh militants in a controversial mission known as Operation Bluestar.
The time to visit Akal Takht is between 5 Am to 10 Pm. The historical location is open every day for all visitors and devotees. One might need to carry a shawl or a light jacket to enjoy the pleasant weather during the evening.
The ideal month to visit Akal Takhat is during the cold winter season. From October to February, one can enjoy their visit to the Golden Temple complex. In the evenings, visitors can witness the spiritual feeling. The mesmerizing lights brighten the throne at night.
