Mehrangarh Fort, located in Jodhpur in Rajasthan, is one of the largest and most beautiful forts and also a famous tourist place in India. The Fort of Rajasthan is situated at a lofty height, 400 feet above the city, and is enclosed by imposing thick walls. Inside its boundaries, there are many palaces, which are famous for their carvings and courtyards.
Mehrangarh (etymology:'Mihir' {Sanskrit)-sun or Sun-deity; 'garh' {Sanskrit}-Fort; i.e. 'Sun-fort'; as per Rajasthani language pronunciation conventions, 'Mihirgarh' has shifted to 'Mehrangarh'; the Sun-deity has been the head deity of the Rathore dynasty; is one of the biggest forts in India. Though the fortress was originally started in 1459 by Rao Jodha, founder of Jodhpur of Rajasthan, most of the Fort of Rajasthan which stands today dates from the period of Jaswant Singh (1638–78). This magnificent Fort is located at the center of the city, spreading over 5 km atop a 125-meter-high hill.
One year after the succession of Rao Jodha, the Mehrangarh fort was built to form the new capital of the Marwar Kingdom. Before, the old Fort was actually the capital of the Marwar rulers. The biggest tourist attraction in Jodhpur, this charming Fort, is hard to miss as it is located on a high hill and is spread across 5 kilometers. The fort is an image of the strength of the Rajput kings and their indomitable will.
Built in Rajputana style, the Mehrangarh Fort Jodhpur is located in the heart of Jodhpur. It is also ideally perched on the top of a hill. The walls of the Fort are 36 meters in height and 21 meters in width. This makes it one of the most charming forts in Rajasthan. There are a total of seven gates to enter the Fort.
Visiting Fort gives travelers an idea of these vital parts of Jodhpur's history and a peek into the history of the city. Apart from this, merely walking through the giant Fort and watching and appreciating the beautiful architecture is an amazing experience that must be had when visiting the beautiful city of Jodhpur.
The Jodhpur Mehrangarh Fort is one of the finest forts in India, as its imposing structure, amazing architecture, and compelling history lend it a charming aura that cannot be found elsewhere. The Fort is in the possession of the clan that constructed it and ruled it as their own. It is also still well maintained, providing people with a lot of things to see and observe.
The fort also has one of the excellent museum collections in Rajasthan. This gives travelers the opportunity to look at the bounties of the past. The entry fees are very less with a ticket only required for visiting the inside museum. The best time to visit the fort is in the winter if you want to explore it nicely.
