Often you must have seen the giant vermilion statue of Hanuman ji in social media which is located in Shimla. This 108 feet high statue
can be seen from any corner of Shimla. This giant statue is located in the Jakhu temple, which is situated on the Jakhu mountain at an altitude of 8040 feet above sea level. So let us know what was the reason behind the establishment of this divine temple? And how is it related to Hanuman ji?

When Hanuman ji Reached Shimla

  • There was a war going on between Lord Rama and Lanka King Ravana. Even after the war went on for many days, when Ravana's army was looking weak in front of Lord Rama's monkey army. Then Ravana's son Meghnad fired a Shakti arrow at Laxman, due to which he fainted. At the behest of the doctor, Hanuman ji set out to bring Sanjeevani herb from the Himalayas for the treatment of Laxman.
  • Hanuman ji, going through the sky, saw a Yaksha sage doing penance on Jakhu mountain. Hanuman ji landed at this place after taking rest on the way and asking the address of Sanjivani Booti. After getting information about Sanjivani from Yaksha Rishi, Hanuman ji promised to meet him again.
  • Due to the illusion of a demon named Kalnemi, Hanuman ji was delayed for some time, so he returned by a short route and could not meet Yaksha Rishi as per his promise. The sages got upset on this. To remove his distraction, finally Hanuman ji appeared to Yaksha Rishi. After this the self-manifested idol of Hanuman ji appeared at this place. Taking this, Yaksha Rishi got this temple built for Hanuman ji. This Swayambhu statue of Hanuman ji is still installed in the courtyard of the temple.
  • Later, when the number of devotees increased in the temple, then a huge 108 feet statue of Hanuman ji was built here. This statue is so huge that it can be seen from almost every corner of Shimla. This statue, called the 'Pride of Shimla', is one of the tallest statues in the world. Devotees visiting Himachal Pradesh must visit this Hanuman temple in Shimla.
