Today in Fargo-Moorhead: Be cautious of winter travel this week

A winter travel advisory will be in effect from Wednesday night until Friday. The National Weather Service predicts that the first snowfall of the season will fall this week in regions of northwestern and eastern Minnesota.

A rainy-snow mix is possible on Wednesday, with accumulating snow possible over the Devils Lake Basin by Wednesday night.

Thursday afternoon could see moderate to severe snowfall. It's uncertain where the major affects will be, but the NWS says there's a strong probability of minor travel disruptions for us later this week, with the greatest risk in the basin and northern Red River Valley.
Far northeast North Dakota could experience 6 inches or more of snow.
"Now is the time to begin preparing for the return to winter. Check to see if your car has a winter survival kit. If you have travel plans this week, keep an eye on National Weather Service forecast updates," the NWS advised in a Tuesday update.
In other weather news, temperatures will gradually drop this week. Wednesday's high is 53 degrees; the next three days will be 44, 25, and 31 degrees by Saturday. All of this is accompanied by rain, snow, and a breeze.
News-wise: An off-duty pilot has been charged with attempting to shut down the engines of a Horizon Airlines plane mid-flight earlier this week. According to the Fargo Forum, he may have ties to the University of North Dakota.
