Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Announces Free Travel for Senior Citizens in NMMT Buses this Diwali
Navi Mumbai, India - In a heartwarming move that's sure to brighten up this year's Diwali festivities, the NMMC has given the green light to provide free travel for senior citizens in the civic-run Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) buses. The announcement comes after senior citizens appealed to Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar, and their pleas have been answered.
The announcement is eagerly anticipated, and it's expected to coincide with the Diwali celebrations, following administrative approval in the coming week. This initiative is in line with the state government's provision of similar benefits in its State Transport (ST) buses. NMMC is taking significant steps to improve the quality of life for senior citizens, and free travel for them is a major leap in that direction.

At a recent senior citizens' day program organized by NMMC at Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium in Vashi, senior citizens voiced their request for free travel on NMMT buses to Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar. He, in turn, assured them that their demand would be seriously considered.
Municipal Commissioner Narvekar emphasised, "NMMC has been taking several measures to provide a better quality of life to senior citizens. Following the demand made by the senior citizens for free NMMT service, we have taken it up at the administrative level."
He further added, "We are actively assessing the percentage of senior citizens in the total passenger traffic, and we will also make a decision regarding the specific age criteria for this facility."
Narvekar stated, "The policy will be finalized by Monday, following which it will be implemented. We hope to launch this initiative in time for Diwali."
The decision to provide free travel for senior citizens in NMMT buses is a significant step towards ensuring a more inclusive and accessible public transportation system in Navi Mumbai. As Diwali approaches, the NMMC's commitment to the welfare of its senior citizens shines as bright as the festival itself.
