In Delhi, the ‘1st Cambodia-India Tourism Year’ is launched
From June 16, Cambodia Angkor Air-Cambodia’s national flag carrier-inaugurated with four-time-a-week direct flight services between Cambodia and India.
On Monday, the first-ever direct flight connection between Phnom Penh and New Delhi was celebrated in a ceremony where top officials of both countries’ tourism ministries were present. This event also marked the beginning of the inaugural flight from New Delhi to Phnom Penh on the previous day.

The beating of traditional drums by Long Phirum, Secretary of State, Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia and Manisha Saxena, Director General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism of India marked the launch of ‘1st Cambodia-India Tourism Year 2024’.

The audience at that time included government employees as well as travel agents from both nations and many Indian businessmen who mingled with Khmer people and others who came from this nation.

New Direct Flights Boost Connectivity
Cambodia Angkor Air which is also known as Cambodia’s national flag initiated their premier ever non-stop flight service. A Cambodian senior official said that on June 16, several Cambodian representatives travelled from Phnom Penh to India on the first flight.
Aside from the fact that they were accompanied by their counterparts, such as Ambassador Koy Kuong and Seila Hul, Under Secretary of State for Tourism in Cambodia during the event held in New Delhi.
On this occasion, there were also some kind of cultural performances by artists from Cambodia at a Luxury Hotel in New Delhi during the ‘Cambodia-India Tourism Year 2024’ program.
According to Saxena, who spoke to PTI on the sidelines of the event; trade and cultural relations between Cambodia and India are very historic. It was an active trade route between what is now a southern state (in India) and Cambodia (in ancient times) amongst others,” he explained.

“It will be an important step towards bringing citizens together towards rediscovering such commonalities with each other. Increasing traffic demand will be a major mover which brings economic opportunity for tourism businesses. This will increase prosperity and mutual understanding between our two nations,” she said.
Angkor, located in Siem Reap province in the northern part of Cambodia, is one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia.
The Temple of Angkor Wat, including the archaeological complex around it, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
